Supply chains, every salesman and woman of every kind told me, were backed up from here to infinity. When could I get the outdoor sofa? The exercise bike? The blinds? Well, if I was lucky, it would probably be months. And needless to say, that rendered any possibility of negotiating prices impossible, too.
